The artificial lights are of Scalloway - until 1708 the capital of the Shetland group of islands - and the natural ones are the Northern Lights. According to the BBC the northern lights were visible as far south as Yorkshire on Monday and there was a chance last night. I live on the Yorkshire / Derbyshire border but, sadly, no action here. Richard Clubley
