The people of St Kilda had their craft as well as their 'mail-boats', but journeys usually started from the Isle of Harris rather than from Village Bay, Hirta (above). This will be the route of a pioneering venture taking place between Saturday 28 June until Friday 4 July when a group of swimmers (assisted by three kayakers and the crew of a cabin cruiser) will attempt a relay swim to St Kilda.
